As part of Freight Focus Month, a roundtable was convened on 7 August 2025 by the Western Cape Mobility Department’s freight team, bringing together women working across the freight sector, from drivers and operations staff to administrative and support roles. The gathering provided a platform for participants to share their personal journeys, discuss systemic barriers, celebrate achievements, and envision the future of women’s participation in freight work.
Though this event doesn’t appear as prominently in public summaries as some of the other Freight Focus activities, such engagements reflect a growing commitment within the Department to elevate under-represented voices, particularly women, as part of a more inclusive freight ecosystem. By giving space for candid discussion, the roundtable aimed to surface issues such as work-life balance, industry safety, fair treatment, and career opportunities for women, topics critical if the province hopes to attract more women into freight transport and related logistics wor.

The conversation is likely to inform ongoing policies within the Department, including support programmes, training, and outreach, underscoring that freight is not just about trucks and cargo, but about people, relationships, and communities
