On 20 August 2025, as part of Freight Focus Month, the MEC of Mobility, Isaac Sileku visited Tronox Namakwa Sands along with other representatives of the Western Cape Mobility Department. The visit showcased Tronox’s operations and infrastructure, including a demonstration of the Performance Based Standards system.
This engagement highlighted the critical role heavy-industry freight plays in regional economic development and showcased how industrial logistics can be better aligned to safety and infrastructure standards. By bringing government, industry, and regulators together, the visit opened space for robust discussions on infrastructural needs, transport challenges, and mobility solutions in the region
Through such collaborations, the Department is striving to balance industrial growth with responsible freight planning. The interactions with Tronox signal a commitment to integrating freight infrastructure improvements with industrial needs, setting the stage for safer, more efficient, and sustainable freight operations across the province.
